Incidence of Anal Cancer

چکیده
human papillomavirus (hpv) is the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection. It is more common than herpes and chlamydia and it has been estimated that more than 75% of sexually active adolescents and adults between the ages of 15 and 49 will acquire at least one type of hpv infection. The infection is practically guaranteed in people with more than five sex partners in their lifetime. More than 100 different hpv genotypes exist, approximately 10 to 15 of which are known to cause disease in genital mucosal tissues. These include nononcogenic varieties—primarily types 6 and 11, as well as types 42, 43, and 44—associated with the development of genital condylomas or mild dysplasia and generally do not progress to either higher-grade lesions or cancer. Oncogenic varieties—types 16 and 18, in particular— are associated with more dysplastic lesions and account for the majority of invasive cervical or anal carcinoma cases. Types 31, 33, and 35 are associated with an intermediate risk of high-grade dysplasia and cancer.

Impact of human papillomavirus vaccination on anal cancer incidence in French women
Human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 and 18 are found to be involved in 80% of anal cancers. Two vaccines against HPV infections are currently available, and vaccination policies aim to decrease mainly, incidence of cervical cancers. Moreover, an impact of HPV vaccination on the incidence of anal cancer can also be expected. Our aim was to assess the potential benefits of HPV vaccination on the occurr...
متن کاملImpact of screening and antiretroviral therapy on anal cancer incidence in HIV-positive MSM.
BACKGROUND The incidence of anal cancer is high in HIV-positive MSM. We modeled the impact of screening strategies and combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) coverage on anal cancer incidence in Switzerland. METHODS Individual-based, dynamic simulation model parameterized with Swiss HIV Cohort Study and literature data. We assumed all men to be human papillomavirus infected. CD4 cell count...
متن کامل(HIV)-positive persons and men who have sex with men (MSM) are at increased risk for anal cancer. Organ transplant recipients and women with a history of cervical cancer or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia
Background: Anal cancer incidence is gradually increasing. The cause of this increase is not exactly known. This systematic literature review aimed to investigate the trend in time of anal cancer incidence and to find an explanation for the supposed increase. Methods: The TRIP database and PubMed were searched for trends in time in incidence of anal cancer in the general population, for risk fa...
متن کاملMarked increase in the incidence of invasive anal cancer among HIV-infected patients despite treatment with combination antiretroviral therapy.
OBJECTIVE To describe the cases of anal cancer that appeared in the French Hospital Database on HIV between 1992 and 2004 and to study risk factors of anal cancer. METHODS We examined the incidence rates of anal cancer between 1992 and 2004 and the risk associated among 86,322 HIV-infected patients included in the French Hospital Database on HIV. RESULTS We identified 132 cases of anal canc...
متن کاملHiV epidemic on the incidence rates of Anal cancer in the United States
Methods Data on anal cancer cases with and without AIDS were obtained from the HIV/AIDS Cancer Match Study. The number of HIV-infected anal cancer cases without AIDS was estimated from the number of anal cancers occurring before diagnosis of AIDS. The proportion of anal cancer cases with HIV infection in the general population was calculated. We estimated temporal trends in the incidence rates ...
متن کاملEvaluation and Management of Anal Intraepithelial Neoplasia in HIV-Negative and HIV-Positive Men Who Have Sex with Men
The incidence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated anal cancer in men who have sex with men (MSM) is striking and has not been mitigated by the use of highly active antiretroviral therapy. Detection and treatment of high-grade anal intraepithelial neoplasia (HGAIN) may reduce the incidence of anal cancer. Anal cytology is a useful tool to detect HGAIN; annual screening of HIV-positive MSM a...
